Defect Backlog
Workshop & Consumables → Defect Backlog lists every vehicle carrying at least one unresolved defect, with counts by severity and the age of the oldest — worst first. It's the triage view the workshop and the compliance officer share.
Grounding
A vehicle with any safety-critical defect is grounded: it may not be dispatched until the defect is resolved. The safety-critical count turns red and the vehicle's Standing column reads Grounded; everything else shows In service. The footer counts how many vehicles are currently grounded.
Reading the table
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Safety-critical | Defects that ground the vehicle — red when non-zero |
| Major | Serious but not grounding |
| Minor | Cosmetic or low-impact |
| Total | All unresolved defects on the vehicle |
| Standing | Grounded or In service |
| Oldest open | Date the longest-outstanding defect was raised |
What to look for
- Grounded vehicles are lost capacity — the longer the safety-critical defect sits, the more it costs (see Vehicle Downtime for what incidents have already cost).
- An old Oldest open date on a busy vehicle means defects are being logged but not worked off — a workshop throughput problem, not a vehicle problem.
